PM Modi bursts into laughter as Safran chief jokes about being ‘Made in India’ during virtual event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated French aerospace major Safran’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility for aircraft engines in Hyderabad on Wednesday, highlighting India as a trusted partner for global investors.

In a light-hearted moment during the event, Safran Chairman Ross McInnes joked about being “Made in India,” referencing the government’s Make in India campaign.

“I was born in India, so I’m ‘Made in India’ too,” McInnes said, prompting laughter from PM Modi.

The facility, designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually, is expected to employ over 1,000 skilled Indian technicians and engineers once it reaches full operational capacity by 2035.

PM Modi said the new MRO hub would create substantial job opportunities for India’s youth and strengthen the rapidly growing civil aviation sector, which has seen domestic carriers place orders for over 1,500 planes.

Highlighting India’s investor-friendly stance, PM Modi emphasized that investors are considered co-creators and stakeholders in India’s development journey.

“Betting on India is the smartest business decision of this decade,” he said, while also promoting the “Design in India” initiative across all sectors.
