Bhadohi, Mar 26 (UNI): Hitting out at the Congress, Union minister and senior BJP leader Smriti Irani said here on Tuesday that the people of the country were ready to give a befitting reply to those questioning the army's bravery and trying to lower their morale for political gains.

Addressing an election rally at the Gulabdhar Rashtriya Inter College ground in the Gopiganj area of Bhadohi, Irani said it was shameful that people like Sam Pitroda - advisor to Congress president Rahul Gandhi - demand proof of the air strike.

The BJP leader said that hundreds of people lost their lives in the Mumbai terror attack during the Congress tenure and the then government was unable to give a befitting reply of the heinous incident. She said the army was not allowed to act after the 26/11 attacks.

The Union minister said the people of the nation were ready to teach a lesson to those who view the army's valour with doubt and suspicion.

Lashing out at Congress general secretary for East UP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Irani said: "Nowadays some people have got the privilege of calling themselves as the daughter of 'Ganga Maiya'. But the wise people of Uttar Pradesh are not ready to give support to such opportunistic people."

"Congress president Rahul Gandhi is thinking of contesting the Lok Sabha polls from somewhere else in place of his traditional seat Amethi. The fact is that the local Congress has informed him that he will cut no ice in Amethi. Likewise, the people of Bhadohi are saying, 'Bhaag Rahul bhaag, ki ab janta phir aa rahi hai'," she said.

The atmosphere at Irani's rally turned tense when in the presence of the textile minister, Ambrish Tiwari of the Brahman Yuvjan Sabha and other workers started sloganeering against present BJP MP Virendra Singh Mast.

During the sloganeering, a scuffle broke out among the supporters of the MP and the workers of the Brahman Yuvjan Sabha, which triggered panic among the people present in the rally. The workers of the Yuvjan Sabha, in the presence of Irani accused that MP Virendra Singh Mast did no such developmental work during his tenure in Bhadohi because of which the party should again give a ticket to him.
