Paramilitary jawan on Gujarat election duty kills 2 colleagues with service rifle

Porbandar (Gujarat): Two paramilitary jawans were killed and two others injured after one of their colleagues opened fire near Porbandar in Gujarat, where they were stationed for election duty ahead of next month’s assembly polls, media reported.

The jawans were part of an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) from Manipur and deputed in Gujarat besides the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), said Porbandar Collector and District Election Officer AM Sharma, NDTV reported.

It is still not known what led to the scuffle that escalated and gunshots were fired from an AK-56 rifle, the report said.

The two injured jawans were shifted to a hospital in Jamnagar, the District Election Officer said, adding that one of the injured jawans has received a bullet injury in his stomach while the other was hit in the leg.

Porbandar district will vote on December 1 in the first phase.

The second phase poll will be held on December 5, and results will be declared on the 8th.
