Pakistan Court terms Lakhvi's detention illegal, orders his release

Islamabad, Mar 13 (IBNS): A Pakistani court on Friday declared 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's detention illegal and ordered that he should be released from jail.

The notifications which were issued by Islamabad's District Administration were termed as null and void by Justice Noorul Haq in the morning, Express News reported.

Earlier, Lakhvi, who had been in jail since 2009, was granted bail by an anti-terror court on December last year, but was rearrested.

His counsel had appealed against his detention in the High Court, which held it invalid.

The country’s Apex court had also over-ruled a recent high court verdict suspending Lakhvi’s detention after he was granted bail in December last year.

The Pakistan government had challenged the high court order in the Supreme Court, reports said.

Lakhvi had masterminded the 2008 Mumbai terror attack that killed as many as 166 people.
