Over 40,000 people evacuated following flood alert in Bihar
The landslide in the neighbouring Himalayan nation caused by heavy downpour on Saturday killed at least nine people leaving hundreds of people missing.
It also created a mud dam blocking the Sunkoshi river which enters Bihar with the name Kosi. Sources said controlled blasts were carried out by the Nepali army to clear the blockage.
The Bihar government, however, said that there is “no need to panic” as the situation is quite “under control”, reports said.
Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi held a high-level meeting at Birpur near the Nepal border on Sunday and conducted an aerial survey of the Kosi region.
Assuring people not to panic, the CM said the state government would monitor the release of water from Nepal for the next two days.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also evinced concern over the flood situation directing all necessary arrangements be made available to the region.
