Operation Sindoor: Indian MPs visit Rome to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral and international cooperation to combat terrorism
An all-party delegation of Members of Parliament and eminent persons from India arrived in Italy's Rome where they are expected to meet politicians, think tanks and members and discuss ways to strengthen India’s bilateral and international cooperation to combat terrorism.
The delegation of eight MPs from both Houses of Parliament and major political parties, isled by Member of Parliament, Ravi Shankar Prasad from the Lok Sabha (lowerhouse).
The visit is taking place in the context of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir on 22 April,Operation Sindoor by India to destroy the cross-border terrorist infrastructure and subsequentdevelopments.
"After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India has undertaken a global diplomatic outreach to articulatethe country’s unified position about zero-tolerance for terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations," read the statement issued by the Indian govenrment.
Seven multi-party delegations are visiting key capitals across the world to share the messageabout India’s unwavering commitment to address the global scourge of terrorism.
The delegation led by Ravi Shankar Prasad is visiting Italy, France, Denmark, Germany, theU.K and the European Union in Brussels.
"Their discussions and interactions in Italy are aimed atstrengthening India’s bilateral and international cooperation to combat terrorism," the statement said.
"The visit willfurther enhance mutual understanding between India and Italy and strengthen the growingstrategic partnership," the statement said.
In Rome, the delegation would be interacting with the Members of Parliament, think tanks andmedia. They will also meet a cross-section of vibrant Indian community in Italy.
Since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the leadership of India and Italy have been in contact witheach other.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted on X immediately after the attack conveying hersadness and closeness to the Government and people of India.
She spoke to Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on 24 April to reiterate condolences and Italy’s commitment to combat internationalterrorism.
She also called for strengthening bilateral dialogue and joint action in this area.
TheMinister of Defence Guido Crosetto expressed deep sorrow for the cowardly terrorist attack and hisfull solidarity with the people of India.
