One soldier killed in gunfight along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla

Srinagar/IBNS: One soldier was killed in a "brief but intense" gunfight along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, media reports said.

The gunfight occurred in the Churanda village of Uri sector.

"It looked like a targeted attack," a police officer said as quoted by The Indian Express.

The Army has confirmed the death of soldier Banoth Anil Kumar on X.

Chinar Corps- Indian Army posted on X, "Chinar Corps deeply regrets the loss of precious life of Braveheart Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, while performing operational duty along the Line of Control in Baramulla district.

"Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolence and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family."

This incident happened days after two soldiers were killed in the Akhal forests of South Kashmir's Kulgam during an anti-insurgency operation.

The operation went on for 11 days but no terrorist was found.

It was one of the longest operations in recent times.
