Burdhaman/UNI: One person, who sustained critical injuries when a portion of the roof near enquiry counter at Barddhaman Railway Station complex caved in yesterday, succumbed to his wounds last night.

The seriously injured person died at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, while the another injured was undergoing treatment.

The incident took place at around 8:10 pm when the station was choc-a-bloc with passengers.

The entire area around the building, which was undergoing repair work, was evacuated as the authorities feared that the remaining structure could also come down.

War-footing work continued throughout to remove the debris at the station.

An investigation was ordered to find out the reason behind the collapse.

A three-member committee, formed by the Railways to probe the incident, would submit its report within ten days.
