Omar condoles death of 9 officials in Kashmir road mishap
Srinagar, July 8 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the road accident on Kokernag-Kishtwar road near Simthan Top in which nine officials of Sheep Husbandry Department loss their lives.
The Chief Minister in his condolence message to the bereaved family and the department, conveyed his solidarity and sympathy and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
He also announced Rs. 1 lakh compensation to the families of each of the deceased in the accident.
This comes after at least nine employees of State Sheep Husbandry Department, including a District Officer, were killed Tuesday when a Tata Sumo vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The accident took place near Chhatroo pass in Sinthan Top area of the mountainous Kishtwar district.
The deceased employees of Sheep Husbandry Department, Kishtwar, include District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Rafiq Ahmad Akhoon, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Shatroo, Dr. Aamir and employees Irshad Ahmad, Ahmadullah, Rehman Rishi, Ghulum Nabi, Romesh Kumar and Sat Lal.
"The bodies have been retrieved from the gorge," said an official.
The cause of deadly accident is being ascertained, the police said, but preliminary investigations suggested that the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve on the hilly road.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home, Industries and Commerce, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has expressed deep shock and grief over the accident in which 9 officials of Sheep Husbandry Department lost their precious lives.
Kichloo rushed to the spot. He also visited Kishtwar and expressed his sympathies and solidarity with the bereaved families.
The employees were going to attend a medical camp at Simthan Top from Kishtwar when the accident occurred.
