Odisha: School teacher sent to jail for killing wife for dowry

Kendrapara/UNI:  Police today arrested a government-run primary school teacher under Aul police station on the charge of killing his wife for dowry.

Aul Police Station IIC Salil Kumar Pradhan said, Bhimsen Sethi, of Malapatana village under Aul police Station who has been working at Chakradhar Primary school, Singiri was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by the father of the deceased.

In his FIR, the father of the deceased alleged that his daughter Kalyani married to Bhimsen in 2008. During the marriage, he had given a sum of Rs 55,000, a motorcycle, 60 gms of gold ornaments, a colour TV and other household articles as dowry as demanded by the grooms family.

But Bhimsen and his family members started torturing his daughter both physically and mentally for bringing Rs 1 lakh as dowry.

On June 3, the victim’s father said he got a telephonic call from a friend of Bhimsen that his daughter Kalyani was killed.

Aul police registered a case under Section 498(a),306,406 of IPC; 4 DP Act, seized the body and sent it for autopsy.

Aul police arrested the teacher today and produced him before the local court. The Court remanded him into jail custody after rejecting the bail plea, Pradhan, said.
