Odisha: A rape accused tie the knot with the victim

Balasore/UNI: A rape accused has tied the nuptial knot with the victim in a temple here as per Hindu customs and tradition.

The marriage was solemnized with the permission of the court in presence of family members of both sides and jail authorities here on Saturday last.

According to reports, Bikash Das (25), of Khadikapada village under Baisinga police station of Mayurbhanj district, was in physical relationship with the victim (20) of Lachhmankhunta, Nuasahi under Rupsa police station on pretext of marriage.

However, later Bikash allegedly avoided her and the relationship between duo turned bitter.

Police took cognizance of the matter arrested Bikash after the girl in a complainant lodged with the Rupsa police alleged that she was sexually exploited and deceived by the accused.

He was lodged in Balasore jail after his bail petition was rejected by the court.

Later, family members of both the accused and the wanted to settle the matter outside the court and sought permission from the jail authorities for their wedding which was accorded by the DG Prison and Correctional services Santosh Upadhay.

Along with other official formalities permission from the court too was sought.

After obtaining permission from the required quarters the marriage was solemnized in Laxminarayan temple, at Rajabagicha outside the jail.
