Agartala/UNI: The Nagarik Suraksha Mancha (NSM), Citizens’ Protection Forum an apolitical outfit for the residents of Kanchanpur has demanded settlement package for the Bengali people who had been dislodged from their home and hearth by the Bru displaced of Mizoram in past few years.

Addressing media in Kanchanpur of North Tripura NSM president Ranjit Nath welcomed government’s decision of Bru permanent settlement in Tripura and urged the government to initiate a same process for the displaced Bengalis too.

“We have no problem with the government’s decision. But, at the same time we also want to draw government’s attention on the Bengalis who were subjected to the victim by the displaced Brus,” Nath said, adding that about 622 Bengali families had been displaced from 1997 to 2019 from surrounding localities of six Bru camps in Kanchanpur.

Taking the queue of NSM, Bru displaced leaders who have been assured of permanent settlement in Tripura also urged the government to solve problems of the non-tribal population residing around.

The General Secretary of Mizoram Bru Displaced People Forum (MBDPF) Bruno Msha said that the issues of the non-Bru population in the area have to be solved for peaceful co-existence.
