Sarajevo/IBNS: A new species of beetle has been named after the Tennis star Novak Djokovic by Serbian Scientists, Serbian Media reported.

The insect, which belongs to the line of Duvalius genus of ground beetles found in Europe, was discovered in an underground pit in western Serbia, Reuters reported.

The beetle has been named Duvalias Djokovici, the Tanjug news agency cited researcher Nikola Vesovic as saying.

The name is an attempt to highlight the attributes of the dung beetle like its speed, strength, durability, flexibility, and the ability to survive in a harsh environment, as per a Reuters report.

Vesovic highlighted the fact that the beetle had lost its eyes while living underground.

“I proposed to name the new species after Djokovic,” Vesović was quoted as saying by Reuters.

“He is the man who did much for this country. We feel urged to pay him back in the way we can,” he said as per a Reuters report.
