Noida/IBNS: The Noida International Greenfield Airport better known as Jewar airport is expected to become operational by December 2023 or January 2024 as the development work of the airport is progressing as scheduled, said media reports.

According to a Mint report, Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd (YIAPL), the concessionaire of the upcoming airport aims to sign all the financing agreements for the project by April 2021 and commence construction immediately, YIAPL chairman and managing director Daniel Bircher said.

The resettlement and rehabilitation of nearly 3,000 families who are getting displaced due to the airport project is also expected to be completed by May 2021, said CEO of Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), Arun Vir Singh, reported media. It will cost the government an amount of around Rs 350 crore, added the reports

The airport will be developed by Switzerland-based private company Zurich Airport International AG and the project's development will be monitored by NIAL, a nodal agency established by the state government of UP.

The airport's logo, design and name was approved by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath  on December 18.

Reports said the airport's master plan was sent for Ministry of Civil Aviation's comments on December 4. After the plan is approved, the NIAL will take it for approval, and, thereafter, construction and development would  begin.

The flight operations should start after three years of signing the concession agreement, which was signed on October 7.
