No question of college examinations in September: Mamata Banerjee after SC order
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said her state will not conduct any college examination amid Covid-19 spread in September, hours after the Supreme Court ruled students can't be promoted to the next year on the basis of internal assessments.
Banerjee during the anniversary of her party Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s youth wing said, "I respect the court. But there is no question of holding examinations in September."
"I would request our Education Minister (Partha Chatterjee) to see if the examinations can be taken in the next month through online and offline mediums before Durga Puja, not compromising on the safety of the students," said the CM, who has been leading the movement against the engineering and medical entrance examinations in September."

The Supreme Court on Friday said college students can't be promoted without the final year examinations.
The top court said the examinations must be held this year, though the states have been given a window to defer tests beyond Sept 30 due to the Coronavirus spread.
University Grants Commission (UGC), which is the national education body, had said the final year examinations must be held by Sept 30.
The UGC during the court hearing said the states cannot give degrees to the students without examinations but are free to defer the dates.
