No milk, no social events: MP village’s harsh punishment for love marriages

A village in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district has openly declared to boycott families whose children marry by choice, media reports said.

The incident occurred in Panchewa village.

A video has now gone viral where a young man can be heard announcing the ' village decree' amid the presence of a large number of villagers.

According to the announcement, any boy or girl who elopes and marries by choice will not only be punished, but their entire family will be ostracised, reported NDTV.

As per the decree, members of such families would not be allowed to participate in social events and milk and other necessities would not be provided to them.

In the video, the man could be heard naming a few people who would be subjected to the boycott.

The Janpad CEO and the Patwari visited the village, attempting damage control by explaining that social boycotts are illegal and unconstitutional, reported NDTV.

Meanwhile, social media users reacted to the video and voiced their strong protest against the act.

One of the social media users wrote on X: "Immediate judical action should be taken against such panchayats. Do not interfere with personal affairs of people. Focus on public domain matters."

Another said: "He is anti constitutional."

An internet user said: "Meanwhile, they want to 'liberate' Iranian women."
