NMC moves SC seeking extension of deadline for MBBS, related courses

| @indiablooms | Dec 26, 2020, at 10:26 pm

New Delhi/UNI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has moved Supreme Court seeking extension of deadline for MBBS and Super Specialty medical course admissions till January 15, 2021 for the academic session 2020-21.

In view of reopening of medical colleges after Covid lockdown, the time schedule prescribed earlier could not be followed, NMC said in an official statement here on Saturday.

The order passed by the Apex Court will be uploaded on the NMC website in due course, the statement added.

On December 23, NMC had allowed the PG degree students of 2018-2019 batch and 2019-2020 batch to submit their thesis at least three months in advance before the Theory and Clinical/Practical examinations instead of the earlier six months as a COVID-19 relief.

The new medical education regulator NMC formed after the Centre passed a law on August 8, 2019, replacing the Medical Council of India (MCI) with NMC.

The Centre constituted the NMC by appointing a chairman, a secretary and 29 members on September 24, 2020, effectively abolishing the MCI, which was seen as a corrupt body.
