Newly formed UNLFW take responsibility of Nagaland attack

Guwahati, May 4 (IBNS): The newly formed United National Liberation Front of Western South East Asia (UNLFW) has taken responsibility for the attacked on Assam Rifles troopers in Mon district of Nagaland, along with Myanmar border, on Sunday.

At least eight jawans of Assam Rifles were killed and nine others were injured in the attack.

A statement sent by the ULFA (I) on Monday said that newly formed UNLFW, United platform of NSCN-Khaplang, ULFA (I), KLO and NDFB had carried out the joint attack on Assam Rifles troopers at Changlangsu village in Mon district.

"The UNLFW was formed on April 17 under chairmanship of SS Khaplang, chairman of NSCN(K)," Arunodoy Asom, publicity secretary of ULFA (I) said in the statement.

At least eight jawans of Assam Rifles were killed, nine were injured and four others reportedly missing in an ambush by militants at the remote area along the Nagaland - Myanmar border on Sunday evening around 2-30 pm.

Nagaland DGP LL Doungel said that the incident took place at the remote area when troopers were proceeding to their company camp from Tobu area.

"A vehicle carrying the Assam Rifles personnel and a water tanker had gone to a nearby place to fetch water. When the vehicle reached at Changlangsu area, a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was exploded and militants firing indiscriminately on the troopers," the Nagaland DGP said.

The injured personnel were rushed to a hospital.

On other hand, Nagaland DGP, along with top police officials and the army, had rushed to the area and launched an operation against the militants.

NSCN-Khaplang had recently cancelled the cease fire agreement with the Union government.
