New Delhi/IBNS: Jyotiraditya Scindia, the new Union Civil Aviation Minister, who was sworn in last week, has good news for the people of his home state, Madhya Pradesh.

The state will have eight new flights from July 16 under the UDAN scheme, which is aimed at connecting the smaller airports to the rest of the country.

The new flights will be operated by SpiceJet, Scindia said, tagging the airline in his tweet as he made the announcement in a Twitter post.

He said the civil aviation ministry and the airline industry is committed to taking the UDAN scheme to greater heights, the minister said.

The government has set a target of operationalising 100 underserved airports  under the UDAN scheme and also starting 1,000 new routes across the country under the scheme, former Civil Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said earlier this year.
