NCB seizes 661.5 kg ganja destined for Lanka, 5 held

Chennai/UNI: Officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) have seized 661.5 kg ganga and arrested five people in this connection here last night.

NCB Zonal Director A Bruno, in a release today said, acting on information, the officials intercepted a container truck with fake TN registration number near Ayakkaranpula at Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district which was coming from Andhra Pradesh side last night.

On checking the truck, the officials found 661.5 kg ganja concealed in 310 packets wrapped with brown adhesive tape. 

In this connection, the NCB officials arrested Ramanan (39) and Thavamani (34), both from Tiruvottriyur in Chennai, Selvaraj (54), Iyyapan (35) and Paramanantham (43) all hailing from Nagapattinam district.

On enquiry, it was revealed that the contraband was sourced from Anakkapalli in Andhra Pradesh and destined to Sri Lanka through boat from Nagapattinam.

Further investigations are underway.
