Nawaz Sharif's remark on Kargil confirms truth: Vikas Swarup
New Delhi, Feb 18 (IBNS): In response to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's comment that the Kargil venture by his country's troops in 1999 was a back stab for the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the two neighbouring nations were engaged in a peace process, India on Thursday said the remark was confirmation of truth.
"What Nawaz Sharif said was nothing new. His remark was only a confirmation of the truth which we all aware of,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Vikas Swarup said during a media briefing.
On being asked about the proposed Foreign Secretary level talks between the two countries, Swarup said both foreign secretaries are in touch with each other but no dates have been finalised yet.
This comes after Sharif, while addressing a rally in Muzaffarabad in Paksitan, had reportedly confessed that Kargil attack by Pakistani troops was a "misadventure."
He admitted that it was a stab in the back for then Prime Minister Vajpayee.
