Narendra Modi describes his all-party meeting ahead of Monsoon Session of Parliament as 'fruitful'

Modi said the party members agreed on 'smooth running' of the Parliament.

"We had a fruitful all-party meeting today, the first one after the election results and before the start of the Monsoon Session. Thankful to the leaders for their valuable suggestions. We all agreed on the smooth running of Parliament so that we can fulfil people’s aspirations," he tweeted.

Narendra Modi on Sunday held an all-party meeting, a first after he returned to the office for a second term.

The all-party meeting is a mandatory one before the start of the Parliament session.

The budget session begins Monday and the Prime Minister is expected to seek the cooperation of all parties eyeing passage of key bills.

In Lok Sabha, the government enjoys a simple majority with 353 members out of the 545 seats.

One of the key bills to be passed this session the 'TripleTalaq' bill which was stalled in the upper house in the last Parliament session.

Not just the opposition, but even BJP ally Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United had opposed the bill then.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress is yet to develop its team in the Parliament after its massive defeat in the national elections. The party just won 52 seats.

Even though the Congress wants to name Rahul Gandhi as their leader in the Parliament, he is insisting on stepping down as the Party president after the poll debacle.

His decision to step down from the party president's post is yet to be accepted by the party.
