Narada case: CBI moves Supreme Court against TMC leaders' house arrest
Kolkata/New Delhi/IBNS: In a twist in the Narada case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court's order granting house arrest to three top Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and a former Kolkata Mayor.
A Division Bench of the high court ordered house arrest of Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee, who were arrested by the CBI on Monday.
Meanwhile, a larger bench comprising five judges of the Calcutta High Court are scheduled to hear the veteran politicians' interim bail plea.
The CBI's move to the top court has now put a question on the high court hearing on Monday.
Both Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, the two important ministers in the Mamata Banerjee government, have been allowed to discharge their administrative duties virtually from home.
Hakim is also the chairman of the board of administrators of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
News portal Narada News released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were seen allegedly taking bribes.
Questions are also raised as to why several politicians, who crossed over from the TMC to the country's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were not arrested by the probe agency.
