Naqvi sentenced to 1-year jail, Rs 4000 fine; gets bail

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IBNS): In a bad news for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government at Centre, Union Minister of State for Minorities Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was on Wednesday convicted by Rampur court in Uttar Pardesh for breaching prohibitory orders during 2009 Lok Sabha election.

He has been punished with one year of imprisonment and has been fined Rs. 4000.

Following his conviction, he was taken into judicial custody.

However, Naqvi, later got bail against Rs-15000 bond, reports said.

An FIR was registered against Naqvi and his associates at Patwai police station in 2009 for unlawful assembly and trying to barge into a police station after his convoy was stopped by law keepers for cheque during electioneering.

More than 200 people were named in the charge-sheet.
