Multiple drones spotted along LoC in Rajouri sector; army opens fire, launches search ops

Security forces were placed on high alert after multiple drones were spotted along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Doonga Gali area of the Keri sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the Army responded swiftly to the sightings, firing shots at the hovering drones in an attempt to bring them down and launching an extensive search operation to check for possible weapon or contraband drops.

This is the second drone-related incident in the Rajouri sector within 48 hours, prompting heightened vigilance along both the LoC and the International Border (IB). Troops have been instructed to maintain a high state of alert amid a noticeable spike in drone activity.

Notably, this is the first time since Operation Sindoor in May last year that multiple drones have been detected across the LoC and IB within a short span of days.

On Sunday, several drones were reported in Rajouri, including one that hovered for a few minutes over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district.

Similar drone movements have also been detected recently in Nowshera, Poonch and Samba sectors, indicating a possible coordinated attempt at cross-border smuggling.

Security agencies believe the drones are being used to drop arms, ammunition and explosives to aid terror groups operating in the region, according to an NDTV report.

Last week, forces recovered a cache of pistols, magazines and explosives in the Samba sector, reinforcing concerns over Pakistan-backed attempts to infiltrate weapons and narcotics into India.

Earlier on Tuesday, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a strong warning to Pakistan, saying any misadventure would invite a fitting response.

Recalling the success of Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack, he said Indian forces had decisively expanded the conventional military space.

“In those 88 hours, the Army’s mobilisation was such that if Pakistan had made any mistake, we were fully prepared to launch ground operations,” General Dwivedi said, adding that the operation remains ongoing.

Security forces continue to conduct intensive searches and surveillance operations across vulnerable border stretches.
