Monsoon fury creates havoc in several parts of India

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IBNS): The monsoon fury combining incessant rains, floods and landslides continues to create havoc in several parts of India with over 500 districts being affected alone in Uttar Pradesh.
At least 10 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh due to flooding and heavy rainfall after water level in river Rapti in Balrampur district of UP, Sharda and Ghaghra rose above danger mark.
 
"River Rapti in Balrampur district of UP is now flowing in HIGH FLOOD SITUATION. At 1800 hrs today, it was flowing at a level of 104.99 mtrs with a rising trend. This is 0.37 mtrs above its danger level of 104.62 mtrs and 0.46 mtrs below its previous HFL of 105.25 mtrs recorded on September 11, 2000. At 0800 hrs today, it was flowing at a level of 104.79 mtrs," a government statement said.
 
While the Rapti is flooding owing to Bhalubang, Bhairahwa and Kusum barrages in Nepal are releasing excess water. River Ghaghara has also swollen due to release of flood waters from the Chisapani barrage in Nepal. 
 
The National Disaster Relief Force has been deployed after 1,500 villagers were stranded in UP because of the flooding.
 
The district administration, has, however, assured that the water is receding.
 
"We have not issued any warnings from Aug  16 onwards. The weather has improved, but light showers will continue," said a local Met official.
 
In the neighbouring Uttarakhand, at least 27 people have lost their lives in the last 48 hours. Heavy rains created havoc and triggered landslides, cloudburst and flooding across the state.
 
Seven people were reportedly killed in Dehradun's Rajpur area due to landslides.
 
Meanwhile, 20 people were killed in cloudbursts at four places in Uttarakhand's Pauri district on Friday.
 
Meanwhile, a flood alert has been issued in nine districts of Bihar.
 
Sensing danger, evacuations are underway in the districts of Supaul, Madhubani and Saharsa after the rising water level in the Kosi river flooded villages along its course. 
 
The state government has requested the Army to be on standby, reports said.
 
The flood situation in the northeastern state of Assam turned grim as it claimed  the life of a child with flood waters submerging 250 villages in several parts of the state, officials said on Saturday.
 
Villages in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Golaghat districts were submerged following incessant rainfall in the state, officials said.
 
Brahmaputra and its tributaries water level crossed danger level in several areas in the state.
 
The flood situation in Lakhimpur district turned critical as flood waters of Subansiri, Ranganadi inundated 120 villages and washed away three embankments in the district.
 
In Lakhimpur, more than one lakh people under seven revenue circles had effected in the first wave flood and flood effected people took shelter at several embankments, National Highway, schools.
 
In Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Nagaon districts, more than 120 villages submerged by flood waters and people had been took shelter in safer places.
 
On other hand, flood waters had submerged 80 percent areas in Kaziranga National Park (KNP).
