Modi, Shah hint action against leaders making irresponsible comments
New Delhi, Apr 4 (INBNS) Sending a strong message to leaders who have been causing embarrassment to the party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah have hinted at action against them.
The warning comes days after Union minister Giriraj Singh's racist comment against Sonia Gandhi.
Reports said the party, which has set its agenda for bringing in reforms in different sectors through the government and faces a dogged resistance from a united opposition particularly on issues like land bill, finds it difficult to protect the government's image because of the unwanted and controversial remarks and acts of a section of people belonging to the saffron brigade which have invited widespread criticism and left the government red-faced.
From Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti to Yogi Adityanath and Sakshi Maharaj to Giriraj Singh- the tale is the same.
The party feels it's time to control these elements to stem the growing negative public perception about the organisation.
During the winter session of Parliament, the government had to face a massive opposition onslaught from the opposition over Jyoti's hate speech against a community, Yogi Adityanath's open assertions on ghar wapasi and Sakshi Maharaj's comments about Nathuram Godse being a "patriot" and Hindus needing to have four children.
In November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked the party leaders not to cross the "lakshman rekha" at a closed-door meeting.
But this did not seem to have tamed the enthusiasm of a section of leaders who like to open up themselves in public unaware of the possible consequences.
