Modi launches three unique social security schemes in Kolkata
All these schemes are targeted mainly for people without any social security coverage, but anyone with other security coverage can also enroll.
On this occasion the Prime Minister handed over the certificates of these schemes to three persons belonging to weaker sections of the society.
Launching the social security schemes in presence of the Governor of West Bengal Keshri Nath Tripathy, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, two Union Ministers of State, MOS Finance Jayant Sinha and MOS Urban Development, Babul Supriyo among others.
The Prime Minister said 80 to 90 per cent of our people had no insurance coverage.
It is the reason for which the government proposes to bring three new social security schemes for larger sections of the society.
The enormous success of Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana paved the way to initiate these three unique social security schemes aimed at providing security benefit even to the poorest of the poor.
The Prime Minister said these schemes will help those who does not have money or other means of power to save them during crisis.
Modi also mentioned the immortal writings of Gurudev Rabindranath’s poem ‘Atmadan’ written in 1906 and said the poor do not need help and we have to change our approach and attitude to give them strength or ‘shakti’.
In this context he mentioned that the smallest retailers of the country actually keep the economy moving and there are over 5.5 crore such retailers in India who accounts for the employment of another 14 crores and said that the government has introduced Mudra Bank for the help of those retailers only.
The Prime Minister urged those who are capable, to pay the premium for their driver, maid servant, sweeper and others to enable those persons to reap the benefit of insurance cover at the hour of utmost need.
He urged the youth of India to utilize the unique benefit of Atal Pension Yojana to get good returns at the age of sixty.
Modi mentioned the glorious role of Bengal and said that beginning made in this land always takes us forward and so the launching of social security schemes here will achieve great success for the people of India.
The scheme which had been introduced on May 1, has so far recorded enrollment of 5 crore 5 lakhs in the country.
The Prime Minister added that already 42 lakh people have registered their names for these three schemes in West Bengal; the Prime Minister said the number will be much more. These three schemes have simultaneously been launched in 115 places all over the country he added.
