New Delhi, July 29 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed Indian athletes during his address via the 46th edition of 'Mann Ki Baat'.

"Just a few days ago, in Junior U-20 World Athletics Championship, India's brave daughter Hima Das made history by winning gold in the 400 m race event. Ekta Bhyan, another daughter of the country, has won gold and bronze medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2018," PM Modi said.

As he delivered Sunday's address, he recognised the contributions of the youth in building new India.

"The month of July often heralds new beginnings for our youth. I salute the young achievers who overcame challenges to succeed. Youth are contributing towards creating a New India," said he.

He also urged the countrymen to care for the environment and the surrounding.

PM Modi through his monthly broadcast paid tribute to the 'saints' of India.

"The teachings of our saints continue to inspire us in the fight against social evils," he said.

The PM paid his tributes to a 'brave son of India', Lokmanya Tilak.

"Ganesh Utsav celebrations are an outcome of Lokmanya Tilak's efforts," he said.

Remembering freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad, Modi said "Azad's passion for the country and his bravery inspire us."
