Lucknow, Jan 22 (IBNS): In the backdrop of the outrage over a young Dalit research scholar's suicide in Hyderabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to face protest at the convocation ceremony of a university here on Friday, even as he said he felt the pain of a mother losing her son.

Taking about the death of Rohith Vemula, the Dalit student from Hyderabad University who committed suicide after he was thrown out of the varsity hostel, he said, "Politics aside, a mother has lost her son. Feel her pain."

Police had to escort out some students who were shouting slogans while Modi was addressing the convocation ceremony of the Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow.

PM Modi's speech was interrupted after some students chanted slogan against him, according to media reports.

In his speech, Modi said, "When I see you all youngsters, I feel very happy. This century is India's century and it is India's century because of the youth of India."

Learning from one's failures is very important, he reminded the students.

Talking about Dr Ambedkar, he said, "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar did a lot for the nation but one thing he was particular about was education. Look at Dr. Ambedkar's life. He faced several obstacles, even insults. But he had the strength & faced these obstacles."

"People know Dr. Babasaheb's role in the making of the Constitution but he was also a doctorate in economics from USA, Dr. Ambedkar did not live for himself. He achieved everything even then he dedicated his life to the nation, to marginalised communities," said the prime minister.
