Modi convenes high level meeting after quake hits Nepal, India

New Delhi, Apr 25 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday convened a high level meeting with Ministers and top officials at 3 PM in the wake of the situation arising due to an earthquake that devastated Nepal's Kathmandu region and affected India.

The Prime Minister has taken report of the situation in districts of UP and Bihar that are bordering Nepal. He has also spoken to the Sitamarhi MP.

The Prime Minister has spoken to the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Sikkim, in connection with the Earthquake.

The Prime Minister is trying to reach Nepal PM  Sushil Koirala, who is abroad. He has spoken to President of Nepal  Ram Baran Yadav.

The PMO has spoken to the Indian Embassy in Bhutan in the wake of the Earthquake. Embassy is in touch with top Bhutan officials as well.

Modi said his government is working to reach out to people hit by a massive earthquake which jolted both India and Nepal.

"We are in the process of finding more information and are working to reach out to those affected, both at home & in Nepal," he said.

A massive earthquake hit Nepal's capital Kathmandu region and India on Saturday. The tremor measured 7.9 in the Richter scale.

Massive damages and loss of lives are being reported from Nepal. Houses and walls collapsed while cracks appeared on the roads.
