MNREGS: CBI registers three cases in UP

New Delhi, July 23 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday said it has registered three cases in connection with the alleged Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGS) in Uttar Pradesh.

 "The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered three cases relating to allegations of cheating; criminal breach of trust; misappropriation of funds as well as the abuse of official power under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in respect of districts of Mahoba, Balrampur and Gonda of Uttar Pradesh on the Orders of Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Lucknow Bench dated 31.01.2014 in Writ Petition No.12802(M/B) of 2011," the CBI said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The First Case has been registered against then Block Development Officer of Charkhari, Kabrai, Jaitpur & Panwari blocks of District Mahoba(UP); Lucknow-based private firm and unknown officials of UP Government & others. The Second Case has been registered against then Chief Development Officer; then Project Director, DRDA, both of District Balrampur; Unknown officials of UP Government and unknown suppliers. The Third Case has been registered against then Chief Development Officer; then Project Director, DRDA, both of District Gonda; Unknown officials of UP Government and unknown suppliers & others," it said.

CBI said searches were conducted in several places in Uttar Pradesh.

"Searches were conducted at 17 residential/business premises of public servants and suppliers (private persons) at Lucknow (07 places); Gonda (03 places); Balrampur(03 places); Kanpur(02 places); Jaipur (01 place) and at one place at Orai (District Jalaun). Cash of Rs.51 lakh(approx.) was recovered from the residence of then District Magistrate, Balrampur. Incriminating documents/articles have also been recovered during these searches," the CBI said.
