Militant attack kills 2 CRPF jawans in J&K

Srinagar, May 11 (IBNS) A militant attack on a road opening ceremony in Sangam area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday has killed at least two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men, officials said.

According to reports, militants opened indiscriminate firing on a road opening party near Halmulla area of the district which left two CRPF men, including an officer, seriously injured.

Later, both died while they were taken to hospital, an official said.

The jawans have been identified as assistant sub-inspector Omkar Singh and constable Tilak Raj.

CRPF PRO in Srinagar told IBNS: "Our  two Jawans have been  identified as assistant sub-inspector Omkar Singh and constable Tilak Raj. They were killed in a millitant attack".

He further said: "As per out report, 3 to 4 militants carried out the attack and later fled from the spot .

Meanwhile, soon after the attack, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the CRPF cordoned the whole area and launched a search operation to nab the assailants.

No militant organization has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.
