Met issues heavy rainfall alert in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, July 15 (IBNS): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and thunder storm in the state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
"Cloudy sky. Moderate to rather heavy (20-50 MM) Rain/thunder storm would occur," the IMD said asking the government to "be prepared."
 
Rain already hit several parts of Uttarakhand in the past 24 hours with the Kumaon region being most affected.
 
The alert has been mostly issued for the Hemkund Sahib area.
 
The disaster management department has reportedly begun evacuating people where they will be provided with food and shelter.
 
Massive floods ravaged Uttarakhand last year leaving thousands of people dead.
