Mumbai/ UNI: The Deputy Dean of the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital here was arrested on Thursday for allegedly taking Rs 50 lakh bribe from a doctor seeking admission in M.D. course.

The victim Dr. Alisha A Sheikh (28), who hails from Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur,  alleged that one Rahul Singh had arranged a meeting with hospital officer Rakesh Ramnarain Verma (54).

Rahul Singh accused along with three others has also been charged with running an admission racket.

Initially, he demanded Rs 1.50 crores for providing the admission but later settled down to accept Rs 50 lakhs, Dr. Sheikh told.

The complainant’s father had transferred Rs 21.10 lakhs to Verma’s account with the Corporation Bank, as per the investigations.

Even after taking the money, Verma didn’t fulfil his ‘promise’ of giving her a seat in the post graduate course, she added.

“Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Patil said that the accused has confessed to taking the amount  from the complainant Dr. Sheikh. We are now probing whether the racket is spread further, whether money was taken from any other students, the involvement of other officials, if any,” said the Investigating Officer.

He also said that accused was arrested from his residence but was admitted at Lokmanya Tilak Hospital due to ill-health.

He will be produced before the court after recovering.
