Mbah Ghoto, world's oldest man dies, aged 146

Sragen, May 2 (IBNS): Mbah Ghoto, the self claimed world's oldest man, has died on Monday, aged 146, reports said.

Ghoto, an Indonesian resident, was hospitalised on Apr 12 with deteriorating health.

Though he was discharged six days later, Ghoto, a heavy smoker throughout his life, ate and drank very little, a report in The Straits Times read.

Following his death, the centenarian was buried in his native village in central Java on Monday.

"Life is only a matter of accepting your destiny wholeheartedly. I have wanted to die for a long time. My wives, children and siblings all have passed away but Gusti Allah (God) has blessed me with a long life," Ghoto was quoted as saying by Jakarta Post in an interview he gave last September.

"I have to live my life patiently and accept my destiny wholeheartedly," he was quoted as saying.

During his career span, Mbah Ghoto had married four times.

Earlier this year, Italian woman Emma Morano died aged 117, which made her the last known survivor of the 19th century.

However, if Ghoto's claims are verified, history will be rewritten as he will officially be the longest living human in the history of civilisation.

The present record belongs with French woman Jeanne Calment, who died at the age of 122 years when she passed away in Aug 1997.
