Manipur: Firing by insurgents kills 1 BSF Jawan, injures 2 Assam Rifles soldiers

Imphal/IBNS: One Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed and two Assam Rifles soldiers were injured in a firing between the security forces and the insurgents in Manipur's Serou on the intervening night of June 5-6, media reports said.

The Spear Corps of the Indian Army said as quoted by NDTV, "One BSF Jawan sustained fatal injuries while two Assam Rifles personnel sustained gunshot wounds (GSW) in general area Serou."

The injured soldiers were air evacuated to Mantripukhri, the officials said.

The search operation is underway.

Manipur witnesses violence

On May 3, Manipur witnessed violence the Meiti community and the Kuki tribals clashed following a 'Tribal Solidarity March'.

The tribal unrest against the Manipur High Court’s order directing the Manipur government to take a decision on the demand of the Meitei community to include them in the ST list flared after attacks and counterattacks between the two communities and soon engulfed a greater part of the state, including the capital city Imphal.

Following the directions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the security forces have appealed to all to surrender the snatched items if they are possessing the same.
