Srinagar/IBNS: In a fresh terrorist attack, a man was shot dead in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Satish Kumar Singh, a driver by profession, who was shot in Kulgam's Kakran village.

Being injured critically, the man was being rushed to a local hospital but died on the way, the police said.

Officials said he was shot in the head from a point-blank range.

He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

"Civilian Satesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Kulgam, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Terrorists involved in this gruesome terror crime will be neutralised soon. Search to track the involved terrorists in progress," the Kashmir Police tweeted.

Condemning the attack, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: "I unequivocally condemn the attack on Satish Kumar Singh in which he lost his life. There can never be a justification for attacks like these. May his soul rest in peace & may his family find strength during this difficult time."

Wednesday's attack is the latest in a series of targetted attacks on migrant workers and local minorities that has been sweeping the Kashmir over the last seven months.

The targeted killings had started in October and the victims had been mostly migrants from outside Jammu and Kashmir who came in search of jobs and also indigenous Kashmiri pandits.
