Mamata slams WB police for registering FIR against mayor's kin, friends
"There was an incident involving small girls in Kolkata. But does that mean police will take away their (driving) license!" Banerjee stated at the state assembly.
She said she is not intervening into the matter and will let police probe the incident. However, the CM feels everybody needs counselling.
This comes after Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee's niece Debapriya Chatterjee and four of her friends' car on Friday night jumped a signal and nearly knocked down a pedestrian.
They were on their way from Rashbehari to Chetla when the incident occurred.
According to reports, a traffic constable came and stopped the car. This triggered an altercation with the youngsters.
The constable later told reporters that the occupants of the car shouted at him and threatened that they would have him removed from his job.
The youngsters were later brought to Tollygunge Police Station.
An FIR was later lodged under two sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
However, over the past four days, the police have neither arrested the accused nor summoned them for questioning in connection with the incident.
Instead, the constable reportedly went on leave on Monday.
