Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday said it averted a major tragedy as it arrested a militant associate and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

"Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a terror associate Ishafq Ahmad Wani a resident of Arigam in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and recovered an IED weighing 5-6 Kgs approximately on his disclosure,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and an investigation started, added.

This comes after Friday’s incident when five soldiers were killed in an explosion triggered by the terrorists in the Rajouri sector when the forces approached the area to eliminate the ultras. On Saturday, a militant was gunned down when he and his associate were confronted by the security forces.
