Maharashtra: Man booked for abetting suicide of his teenage wife in Thane
Thane, Oct 18 (UNI) The city police has booked a 24-year-old man from Badhwad of Bhiwandi in the district on the charge of allegedly abetting the suicide of his teenage wife.
The alleged accused, Mohit Yadav, has been charged under section 306 of Indian Penal Code by the Shanti Nagar police station of Bhiwandi, police said on Friday and informed that no arrest has been made so far.
According to police, the accused kidnapped the 14-year-old victim from Motiganj of Uttar Pradesh and brought her to Bhiwandi, where he married her, six months prior to incident.
The family members of the victim desisted from lodging the complaint, fearing that the family would be defamed in their community, as the accused and the girl were relatives.
Later, the victim complained to her parents about alleged harassment by the accused.
Being fed up with constant harassment, the victim doused herself with kerosene and set her on fire on night of October 6, this year.
She was rushed to the Thane civil hospital, where she succumbed to burns on October 11.
Following her death, the local police registered the offence and are probing into it, sources added.
