Maharashtra: Housewife acquitted for abetting suicide of her husband

Thane, Jun 3 (UNI) A housewife from Badlapur of this district was acquitted by the district court for allegedly abetting suicide of her husband.

Giving the judgement order, the district judge Mrs N H Makhare observed that the prosecution had miserably failed to prove the charges against the accused, Sneha Madhukar Ambokar (25).

Prosecutor Vinit Kulkarni told the court that the victim, Manish Khade, the son of a police head constable from Mumbai was in love with the accused and got married on December 19, 2013. After two months of marriage, the accused and her mother in law started quarreling on trivial matters, to which the Manish and his wife were advised by parents to live separately.

However due to the attachment with his parents the victim was reluctant to live separately, which irked the accused and she subsequently left the house in January 2015 following which the victim was depressed.

In March 2015 again the Manish requested his wife to stay with him, but she refused and then he was fed up and mentally depressed and on April 14, 2015 the victim hanged himself to death at his residence in the Lokmanya Nagar locality, the court was told.

The court was also apprised that prior to that towards the end of March the accused had filed a complaint against the victim with the mahila Takrar Nivarn Kaksha.

However, there is no evidence on record to prove that due to harassment on the part of accused, Manish led or was compelled to commit suicide. The evidence does not disclose that accused instigated the deceased to commit suicide.
There was neither a provocation nor any encouragement by the accused to the deceased to commit an act of suicide.

Therefore, accused was not held guilty of abetting the suicide.
