Maharasahtra: Congress bags 24 out of 26 Sillod Municipal Council seats
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 28 (UNI) The Congress party emerged victorious in the election held on February 27 for the Sillod Municipal Council (SMC) as Congress corportaors bagged 24 out of 26 Council seats.
With the beginning of vote count at 1000 hours on Thursday,the Congress contestants took an early lead in the fray,which witnessed 71.93 per cent voter turnout.
The new SMC President Rajshree Rajratna Nikam amassed extra 11,000 votes to defeat the BJP's Ashok Tayde.
According to the SMC poll results,the BJP won remaining two seats out of 26 while the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM),Shiv Sena,and the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) could not make inroads into the SMC.
Prior to this election,the District Congress President Abdul Sattar's son served as the Council's president.
