Aurangabad (Maharashtra)/UNI: Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil from Hingoli constituency of Marathwada on Thursday claimed that a letter pledging his support to the NRC and CAA was 'fake'.

His comments came after reportssurfaced in a section of media that the lawmaker wrote a letter to the administration of his constituency Hingoli in support of the amended CAA and NRC, which the Shiv Sena leadership has criticised.

He said a letter, which was issued by him for another purpose, was misused and said  that he never declared his support for the controversial law.

Someone has misused his letter and changed the matter using computer, and the tampered letter has been made viral on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, Mr Patil added.

Meanwhile, the MP has lodged a complaint with Hingoli city police, asking them to nab the culprit.

The Shiv Sena voted for the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, but abstained in the Rajya Sabha, reportedly after new ally Congress, reached out to the party through Sharad Pawar.
