New Delhi: Finally, a good news for the widow of Squadron leader Samir Abrol as Geetika is all set to join the Indian Air Force. She sat for the services selection board exam and cleared that.

Geetika will be joining the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana for a training  of six months before commencing her duties from January next year . This was announced by  retired Air Marshal Anil Chopra on Twitter. He described Ms Abrol as a "woman of exceptional substance" in his tweet.

It may be recalled that Samir, 33, along with his colleague Siddhartha Negi, 31, lost their lives after their fighterjet Mirage 2000 crashed while taking off in February this year.

The French-designed jet careened down the runway, broke through a barrier and a wall before exploding at about 10:25 am that February 1 morning.

The ill-fated Mirage 2000 had been flown successfully six times by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited test pilots who had certified the French-designed fighter which is being comprehensively upgraded in India, sources had said.
