Late navy officer Manoranjan's kin refuses to accept Shaurya Chakra
Patna, Aug 17 (IBNS): The family of navy officer Lieutenant Manoranjan Kumar, who lost his life while trying to save others during the mishap on board submarine INS Sindhuratna in February, has refused to accept the Shaurya Chakra which was awarded posthumously to him.
Blaming the government for the mishap, Rukmini Devi, mother of Lt Manoranjan Kumar, told media: "They sent my son's body in a box and now they want to give us an award. I don't want any award. I don't want anything. What I wanted is now gone."
Lt Manoranjan Kumar saved the lives of 15 of his colleagues. However, he got locked inside a cabin and could not be rescued in time.
His parents blamed the Indian Navy and the government for the mishap.
Two sailors were declared dead by the Indian Navy in February in a mishap inside the INS Sindhuratna, a Kilo-class submarine, off the Mumbai coast.
