Landslide amid heavy rainfall kills two in Mumbai

Mumbai/IBNS: Two people have been killed in a landslide in Mumbai amid heavy rain in the financial capital of the country, media reports said.

The deaths occurred after a landslide hit a house in Mumbai's Vikhroli area.

It occurred in Jankalyan society where a family of four was staying.

The deceased have been identified as Shalu Mishra and Sureshchandra Mishra.

The two others in the family- Aarti Mishra and Rituraj Mishra- were injured and they were taken to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment.

Waterlogging has been reported from various parts of Mumbai which is battered by heavy rains.

The Mumbai Police has advised people to avoid non-essential travels.

Police said on X, "Mumbai is experiencing heavy rainfall with an Orange Alert in effect. Water-logging and reduced visibility have been reported in several areas.

"Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and to exercise caution while venturing out. Police have been instructed to be on high alert and @MumbaiPolice is alert and ready to help Mumbaikars. In case of any emergency, dial 100 / 112 / 103."

The civic body BMC said all teams are working on ground to tackle the "emergency situation".
