Lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi Muslims names appear in Assam’s draft NRC: BJP MLA

Guwahati, July 27 (IBNS): Ahead of the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Aug 31, following directive by the Supreme Court, an Assam BJP legislator alleged that names of several illegal Bangladeshi Muslims have been included in the draft NRC, which was published on July 31 last year.

Assam BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev said that lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi Muslims name appeared in the draft NRC, but genuine Indian citizens name were not included in the list.

“For inclusion our name in the NRC, we have needed to show documents to prove our Indian citizenship. Hindus are born in only India. Hindus are not born in Jerusalem, America. Bangladesh or East Pakistan was born from India or Bharatvarsh. The refugee Hindus have not any documents, but, the illegal Bangladeshi Muslims, who entered into India illegally have collected all required documents with help from the previous governments. Now they are getting Indian citizenship by showing these documents. Their names are also appeared in the NRC. But, genuine Hindus name are not included in the NRC because of lack of documents,” Shiladitya Dev said.

“We will not get 100 per cent correct NRC. The entire NRC process is going on in Assam under the guidelines of Assam Accord. The previous governments had not started any works of the NRC. The NRC process was started following directive by the court,” Shiladitya Dev said.

The complete draft of NRC, containing names of 28,983,677 out of 32,991,384 applicants, was published last year.

Around 40.07 lakh people were left out from the complete draft of NRC and nearly 36 lakh people have filed their claims for inclusion their names in the final NRC.

An Additional Draft Exclusion list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on June 26 last consisting of 1,02,462 persons.

The persons whose names appear in the Additional Draft Exclusions List are those persons whose names were included in the Draft NRC published on July 30, 2018, but have been subsequently found ineligible due to various reasons.

On the other hand, Assam AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam slammed the BJP MLA’s remarks and termed him as the ‘Insane Legislator’.

“He does not know what he said. I challenged him to identify at least one illegal Bangladeshi Muslim person, whose name appeared in the NRC. He only made such type of statement only for making dirty politics,” the AIUDF MLA said.
