Kolkata Police's first COVID-19 death, 47-year-old constable succumbs

Kolkata/IBNS: A 47-year-old constable of Kolkata Police, who was originally posted at South Division (DRO)'s office but was on deputation with Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, succumbed to Covid-19 on Saturday.

With this Kolkata police registered the first COVID-19 death in its force, reports said on Sunday.

According to reports, the constable had tested positive for the virus on June 3 and a day later he was admitted to Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, where he died on Saturday evening.

Sources in the city police said, the cop went to meet his ailing wife at his native place at Phansidewa in Darjeeling district of north Bengal on May 28 and he was back on duty on June 1.

However, no update or information regarding the death of the corona warrior has been shared officially by the Kolkata Police yet.

Till Saturday, as many as 195 policemen of the Kolkata Police reportedly tested positive for the contagion and of them 80 have recovered so far.
