Kolkata Police reports its seventh Covid-19 fatality

Kolkata/IBNS: Kolkata Police on Friday reported its seventh Covid-19 fatality as an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) posted at northern Kolkata's Chitpur Police Station succumbed to coronavirus.

According to reports, ASI Tapan Chandra Kumar, who was battling Covid-19 in a city hospital since July 24, died on Friday noon.

"We deeply mourn the untimely demise of Assistant Sub Inspector Tapan Chandra Kumar, who was posted in Chitpur PS. He was affected with COVID-19 and was at the forefront of our Fight Against Corona," Kolkata Police tweeted.

Mouring his death, Kolkat Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma wrote on Twitter: "Sad today we lost ASI Tapan Chandra Kumar of Chitpur PS who was admitted in Hospital since 24th July after being tested as COVID positive."


Earlier, six more Kolkata cops, including an Inspector-rank officer, four constables and a civic volunteer, succumbed to Covid-19.

So far, over 900 Kolkata Police personnel have tested positive for the deadly virus while more than 600 of them have recovered from the infection.
